Reception Latest News-Week 7

This week, we began by talking to our learning partners about our homes and what makes them special to us. The children decided that their families and toys were the things they valued most. In math’s, we have been exploring patterns of four and the early composition of number using the part–part–whole model.

On Wednesday, the children were very excited to begin our Christmas play rehearsals on the stage. They have been working hard to remember their lines, use a loud, clear voice with expression, sing songs, and move their bodies to music when learning our class dance.

In literacy, the children practised writing labels and captions to match pictures. They focused on segmenting and blending words and then writing them using the appropriate graphemes, supported by a sound mat to help with correct formation.

Later in the week, the children took part in an art lesson where they used sketching pencils to make horizontal, vertical, diagonal, and swirly lines in preparation for more accurate drawing. They then created their own pictures using block paints, thinking carefully about whether thick or thin brushes would help them make different marks and shapes.

We ended the week by reflecting on our school visions and values and revisited the story about the Mole, linked to our value, Everyone Matters.
