Nursery Lastest News Spring 1 Week 6

This week has been our Feeling Good, Feeling Safe week at Malvern Way where we have been learning all about how to keep ourselves safe.

On Monday we looked at how to keep ourselves safe in school and who can keep us safe. We looked at one of our characters Choosy Chimp who looks out for us making those good choices. We talked about what adults around the school can help us be safe and put these on our class Helping Hand. We realised that we could put all the adults around the school in our hand, so we decided that Miss Beaumont, Mrs Rathod, Mrs Tait, Miss Nicholson, Mrs Murray, Mrs Murphy, Mrs Stevens, Mrs Cole and Mrs Del Percio were the adults to go in our Helping Hand.

On Tuesday we looked at how we can keep safe by the road. We talked about the Stop Look Listen and Think strategy, as well as making up our own rules. We thought that it would be sensible to walk by a road, hold an adults hand, look both ways, listen for vehicles and wait for the green man at busy junctions.

On Wednesday we looked at how to keep safe at home and thought about any electrical dangers that we might see. First we looked at any dangers we could see in the class room, and then played an interactive game spotting all the dangers in each room of the house.

On Thursday we looked at how we can keep safe when playing on electronic devices and when online. We helped Smartie the Penguin to navigate his way through a series of different scenarios that popped up on his tablet including an advert, when someone else had been on his tablet, and when he played a game online. Each of these scenarios we decided that Smartie should go to a grown up to find out the correct way to deal with it.

It was also Pancake Day this week, so on Thursday we learned all about what Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, means and how it is celebrated around the United Kingdom. We then used up our flour, eggs and milk to make our own pancakes, decided what topping we would have and taste tested them. We each helped whisk the mixture together to make sure there weren’t any lumps.
