This week we continued learning about pollution in our world. We talked about the changes we could make in our lives to lower pollution and make our world a healthier place to be. We began using clay to make our own 3D Earth models, which we will paint next week to show the land and water masses.
In P.E., we started to explore balance by imagining we were jolly pirates on a pirate ship. We climbed the riggings, scrubbed the deck and walked the plank while balancing our bodies in various fixed shapes.
In maths this week we have focused on the composition of numbers 6 and 7 using the song ‘6 little men in a flying saucer’. The children used a variety of representations to show the composition starting with ‘concrete’ objects – toy aliens, progressing to pictures of aliens and eventually the more abstract concept of replacing the pictures with counters to represent the aliens.
We enjoyed learning about the Chinese New Year and found out that this year is the year of the snake. We watched the video of the great race, which decided which animal would come where on the Chinese zodiac and explored how the Chinese New Year is celebrated around the world.
We finished the week by talking about ‘Oracy’ and the importance of speaking and listening in school every day. We learnt that everyone should have the chance to contribute to a conversation and have the right to be listened to. We have thought about how this can be successful and have agreed class rules that we will follow to ensure respectful and meaningful communication takes place every day.
