Reception Latest News Summer 1 – Week 5

We began this week exploring a new story ‘Crunching Munching Caterpillar’. Whilst reading the book we focused on the characters the caterpillar met on his journey and also on the new vocabulary in the book. We wrote about the story and used describing words for each of the characters. We turned our role play areas into bug laboratories and drew a range of bugs using clear pencil lines and shapes. We also continued to observe our class caterpillars who are now fast asleep in their cocoons, we are all very excited to see what happens next. Outside we filled tights with soil and grass seeds to make grass caterpillars, we are looking forward to observing the changes over the next week.

In Maths this week we have been learning to compare quantities, saying when someone has more and less. We have also been continuing to record composition using number sentences, cherry models and bar models.

In PE this week we continued to learn new skills in preparation for sports day. The rain made it unsafe to be outside so we stayed inside and practised throwing a javelin correctly, we also had a lot of fun learning how to negotiate a track jumping up and down in sacks for the sack race.
