Reception Latest News-Summer 1-Week 5

This week, the children continued to develop their writing skills by adding a new page to their facts book about the human body. They focused on the skill of singing and orally rehearsed their sentences before writing. They counted the number of words, identified memory words, and applied their phonics knowledge to segment and spell unfamiliar words. The children worked hard to present their writing neatly in cursive handwriting and to consistently use capital letters, finger spaces, and full stops.

In PE, the children participated in an athletics workshop delivered by the School Sports Partnership. They developed key physical skills including throwing, catching, balance, coordination, and teamwork.

, the focus has been on comparing quantities using the language of “more than” and “less than,” as well as exploring the composition of 5.

The children have been learning facts about minibeasts and have enjoyed recording their knowledge in their own books, as well as drawing and painting their own minibeasts. They also enjoyed a visit to the pond, where they observed tadpoles and discussed the life cycle of a frog.

The week concluded with an engaging assembly led by storyteller Liz Frost, who shared The Turtle Who Turned the Tide by Rachel Bright. The children enjoyed listening to the story and learning interesting facts about turtles.
