The children have settled back well after half term and have enjoyed sharing their special half term moments on Evidence Me. It has been lovely to hear about the exciting adventures, family activities and celebrations they enjoyed during the break.
In Literacy, we explored the key components of a story, discussing how every good story needs interesting characters, a setting and an exciting plot. We talked about what a character is and how characters can be people, animals or even imaginary creatures. The children enjoyed thinking about the different roles characters can have, such as heroes, villains, helpers and friends, and how their actions and feelings help to tell a story. They then began creating their own book, My Story Book. The children shared their favourite stories and characters before drawing them on the front cover, ready to begin their own storytelling journey. They also used their creative skills to make stick puppets of their favourite characters. First, they drew their chosen character, then carefully coloured it in, cut it out and attached it to a stick. They showed great concentration and perseverance throughout the activity.
In Maths, we learned how to use rekenreks to support our understanding of amounts to five. The children quickly mastered using the rekenreks and were able to explain their thinking using their mathematical knowledge. They confidently counted, recognised and compared amounts to five using the beads.
We ended the week with an exciting visit from Raptorxotics, where the children had the opportunity to experience many different species of animals first hand, including an owl, a hedgehog, a giant snail, a snake and a stick insect. They listened carefully to information about each animal, learning about its appearance, habitat and diet. The children were very brave, and many of them even touched the animals. It was a wonderful experience that supported our learning and sparked lots of curiosity. There was plenty of excitement, laughter and learning throughout the afternoon.
What a fantastic first week back!
