Reception Latest News – Summer 2 Week 2

WB 09.06.25

This week we have celebrated The Great Big Green Week where we took the opportunity to explore the conservation of trees. We began the week with our focus text The Oak Tree by Julia Donaldson. We explored the life cycle of an oak tree as shown through the story and explored life in, on and around the tree. We discussed the importance of trees in our world, how they clean the air, how they can shade us from the sun and how they provide a home to many creatures. This book also explored a range of new vocabulary such as thousands, centuries, Normans and Tudors. In maths, we had a lot of fun exploring Rekenreks (abacus style counting beads) for the first time to practise subitising skills.

Throughout the week, we have used our creative skills to create a card for a special male figure in our lives. The children are looking forward to sharing these at the end of the week.
