We began this week with our focus text The oak tree by Julia Donaldson. This book explored a range of new vocabulary such as thousands, centuries, Normans and Tudors. We explored the life cycle of an oak tree as shown through the story and also explored life in, on and around the tree. We particularly enjoyed learning about the importance of roots and used a fun science experiment with tissue and coloured water to explore the function of roots.
On Tuesday we welcomed the librarians from Croxley library who came to introduce the summer reading challenge. We hope you will all take part in this fun summer activity to support your child’s love of books and reading. We look forward to hearing all about the scratch and sniff stickers and certificates the children will receive when they complete this challenge.
In PE we revisited the skills we needed to ride balance bikes successfully – helmet on, look straight ahead and smile. Once we had practised these skills we negotiated an obstacle course ensuring the amount of time we lifted our feet of the floor to balance increased each time we went around the course. We were excited to see some of our friends move to pedal bikes without stabilisers.
