Reception News-Summer 1-Week 6

We started the week by listening to our focus story, “What the Ladybird Heard ” by Julia Donaldson. The children enjoyed reenacting the story with the small world resources and created their own maps to show the route the robbers took to try and steal the farmer’s prize cow.

In literacy, we finished the final page in our books about “My Body.” The children enjoyed reading their books and were super proud to be the authors and illustrators of their own work. They also enjoyed looking back and seeing the progress in their writing skills.

In maths, we explored the concept of length and measured objects using non-standard units such as cubes. The children used mathematical language to compare objects, such as short, shorter than, long, longer than, and equal to.

We have continued to take care of our beans by watering them each day and noticing and talking about all the changes we can see.

In PE, we introduced relay races. The children worked hard to know when it was their turn to race and carefully handed the baton to their teammates.

We also held a very special whole-school remembrance assembly where we celebrated the life of Mrs Cole. The Reception children sang songs, with Shield Bug Class performing “Dream Big” and Ladybird Class singing “When You Open a Book.” Both classes sang with great enjoyment and pride. The children also watched the rest of the school perform dances, poems, and tunes on the ocarina. Well done to all of the children! Mrs Cole would of been so proud of them all.
