Year 1 Latest News – Summer 1 – Week 6

This week, the children have enjoyed listening to more poems by the author Shirley Hughes. They generated ideas to create poems about a minibeast. It was lovely to hear some of the poems read aloud by the children.

In maths, we have learnt that ‘twice as many’ means the same as doubling. In our lessons, the children did this practically using objects and we played a fun game ‘race to 20’ using this language. Later in the week, the children applied twice as many, to a problem involving a recipe.

In the middle of the week, we had a lovely whole school assembly whereby Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed performing a dance. They did themselves proud and were a great audience, listening and watching the other classes perform.

At the end of the week, they children said goodbye to the class butterflies by releasing them into nature. A few children enjoyed holding them briefly, before placing them on a plant so they could find their own way in the world.
