Year 2 Latest News Spring 1 Week 5

This week, we have continued to explore traditional tales and used our acquired knowledge to write our own traditional tales based on The Three Little Pigs and The Gingerbread Man. We adapted the stories using our learning from our topic ‘Behind the Castle Walls’.

In maths, we have applied our skills for addition and subtraction to solve word problems that have missing numbers. The different strategies we have used are bar models, cherry models and part-part-whole. We discussed with our learning partners how we solved the word problems, what type of strategy we have used and why we used that strategy.

In music, we have started to learn about a new musical instrument called an ocarina. In our music lesson we learnt the correct way to hold an ocarina, we learnt to play four different notes which were low b, high b, g and a, and we learnt part of the song Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.

In history, we have continued to learn about people who lived in castles and explored what their jobs were and what they did in that job. We have identified similarities and differences between ways of life in different periods by identifying what their clothes would have looked like, what their possessions were and how they would have received their job
