Year 2 Latest News – Spring 2 Week 4

This week, we continued our learning on multiplication by drawing our own arrays. We were reminded that multiplication can be seen as ‘groups of’ and then drew these groups ourselves. We then used this method to workout multiplication questions. After this, we applied our understanding by using bar models to workout multiplication questions with money.

In English, we used our emotion graph to write our own stories. In our stories, the character had to begin happy, become sad due to a problem and then become happy again when the problem is solved. In our writing, we made sure to use the technique ‘show, don’t tell’ to describe how our main character was feeling. We also included all the features we have learnt so far in Year 2 such as expanded noun phrases, adverbs and similes.

Using our designs from last week, we began to make our vehicles in design and technology. We decorated our small cardboard boxes to resemble our designs and began to think about how we would attach the axle along with the wheels. To create our axle, we had to carefully saw a piece of dowel and made sure we were using the equipment correctly. Next week, we will attach the wheels and add it to the body of our vehicle.

In history, we looked at the events that led up to The Battle of Hastings and what happened during the battle. We placed these events and some artefacts on a timeline, thinking about the dates and the important phrases. To understand the events more deeply we acted out the battle in groups. We then began to discuss The Bayeux Tapestry and its role in history.
