Year 2 Latest News – Summer 1 Week 1

This week, we continued to learn about poetry in English. We investigated the poem ‘Hamster! Hamster!’ by Joseph Coelho and explored the contracted words within it. We then wrote our own contrasting poems with a poetry partner inspired by this poem.

In maths, we consolidated our knowledge of multiplication. We were introduced to the word product, which describes the total of multiplying two or more numbers together. We also explored how multiplication is commutative meaning we can multiply the numbers in any order and get the same product.

Along with starting a new term, we have started a new topic: Get Ready for Take Off. This topic will take us around the world but to begin this learning we looked at our local area. In our Geography session, we worked together to note down everything we knew about Croxley Green. Next, we learnt new facts about the area and added this to our notes about Croxley Green.

On Tuesday, we celebrated Earth Day by taking time to explore the biodiversity of our school grounds. We hunted for mini-beast in the spinney and on the playground and then spent time researching the mini-beasts that we found.
