Year 2 Latest News Summer 1 – Week 4

This week in English, we continued to investigate the book ‘Julian is a Mermaid’. We looked at the pages with beautiful and detailed illustrations but no text. Then we were introduced to the present progressive and used this describe the pages. This verb form uses ‘is’ and then a verb with an -ing ending to make the action sound immediate and make writing come to life.

In Maths, we completed our learning on fractions and then began shape. We discussed the properties of shape and their definitions. When identifying shapes, we were encouraged to look at how many corners and sides it possessed to justify which shape it was. Then we used this knowledge to answer reasoning questions.

In science, we used our knowledge of plant life cycles to investigate the main stages of animal life cycles. Next, we identified the offspring of a variety of animals and used this to think about the first few stages of their life cycle.

In computing, we designed, created, and tested a mat for a floor robot. This introduced the idea that design in programming not only includes code and algorithms, but also artefacts related to the project, such as artwork and audio.

We have also been excitedly observing our bean plants and caterpillars this week. When we came back after the long weekend, our caterpillars had formed their chrysalises so were moved into the net. Some of our bean plants had grown over 10cm, especially the ones in the ‘everything’ condition, whereas, the ones with no water have not grown at all. Have a look at the pictures to see the changes…

Nursery Latest News Summer 1 – Week 5

This week we have been reading the book The Tiny Seed and learning about the journey the seed takes. In our explore learning time, we created our own journey of a bean seed thinking carefully back to the journey of The Tiny Seed.
