Year 2 Latest News – Summer 1 Week 5

WC- 11.05.26

Year 2 have had a fantastic and very busy week of learning! In English, we have been planning and writing our own imaginative stories based around a something important that our main character lost. The children worked hard to include exciting vocabulary, clear story structure and descriptive details to make their writing engaging for the reader.

In Maths, we continued developing our understanding of fractions by learning how to recognise and find halves, thirds and quarters of shapes and numbers.

In Science, we started our brand-new unit all about plants. We explored the differences between seeds and bulbs and discussed what plants need to grow and stay healthy. The children especially enjoyed making their own helicopter seeds and observing how they spin and travel through the air, just like real seed dispersal in nature.

In Computing, we have been learning about creating media through music. The children listened carefully to a range of musical pieces and discussed how the music made them feel, what images or ideas it reminded them of, and how different sounds can create different moods and emotions.
