Reception Latest News-Spring 2-Week 3

We started the week by reading Oliver’s Fruit Salad by Vivian French. The children talked about their favourite fruits and explored healthy eating choices. In art, they used pastels to create observational drawings of a fruit bowl, paying close attention to the colours and shapes of the fruit.

In PE, the children continued to practise using apparatus safely. They worked on balancing on the large apparatus, making shapes such as front tucks and stars, and learned how to jump off equipment safely.

In maths, the children explored the composition of 7, learning that two parts make a whole. They challenged themselves to find different pairs of numbers that add up to 7, such as 2 and 5 or 4 and 3.

In literacy, we have been working on using our phonics knowledge to write simple sentences independently, practising cursive handwriting.

On Wednesday, the children celebrated World Book Day by sharing their favourite books and characters. They enjoyed listening to a variety of stories throughout the week, including some read by special “secret storytellers” and a fun masked reader. The children dressed up as their favourite book characters, designed book covers inspired by their favourite stories, and took part in a special assembly which revealed the names of the masked readers.

We ended the week with a Reception singing lesson, where the children began learning songs for the Spring Parade, which will take place before the end of term.
