This week we enjoyed exploring a variety of poems in English. We discussed similarities and differences between them and which ones we preferred. Over the week, we then wrote a selection of list poems based on different themes and collected interesting vocabulary to match the topic. For example, for our spring poems, we used phrases like ‘bright, beautiful sun’ and ‘green shoots starting to grow’. We developed our knowledge of poems further, by learning to use commas effectively at the end of each line as this clearly shows where each idea finishes.
In maths, we consolidated our knowledge of telling the time by recapping o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. We then developed this by looking closely at specific times and compared them to one another. We looked at different events that might happen during the day (such as eating breakfast, having break time, eating lunch and leaving school) and ordered these on a timeline. We also found it interesting that times on an analogue clock happen twice in one day, for example it can be 6.30am or 6.30pm.
In science, we completed a simple investigation using our observational skills. We had a range of materials and tried to bend, stretch, twist and squash them to see what affect it would have and recorded this on a table. We noticed that some materials can be squashed and then return to their original form. We also realised that some objects are not flexible and you have to be careful when twisting, bending and stretching them in case they snap!
In history, we had lots of fun learning more about Windsor Castle. We discussed how we could find out more information and then had a go at safely researching the past residents who have lived in the castle. Then, we created a timeline to show when these people would have been there. We had lots of questions about Windsor Castle and cannot wait for our trip there!
