This week, we have had a great time taking part in Malvern Way sports week! Year 2 enjoyed a cricket workshop on Monday where we learned how to hold a cricket bat and hit tennis balls into a space. We then played a variety of games that required us to be collaborative and listen to our peers. On Tuesday, we had fun learning some football skills, such as dribbling a ball at different speeds. We had to be aware of our surroundings and ensure we kept looking up so we didn’t bump into anyone. Then, on Wednesday we chose from a huge range of sports in our sport around. It was great to have some new experiences of sports like speed stacking and tag rugby. On Thursday, it was Malvern Way sports day! It was lovely to see everyone taking part and have our parents and carers there to cheer us on. Finally, on Friday we all wore our own sports clothing or came dressed as our favourite sports people. We enjoyed doing some aerobics to music on the playground too!
In maths, we have recapped addition, subtraction, multiplication and division but in the context of word problems. We realised the importance of looking for key vocabulary and then thinking carefully about what the question is asking you. This meant we could then find a suitable way of calculating the solution. After this, we looked at shape and measure and applied our knowledge to word problems here too.
In English, we have started to learn our new story of How Zebras Got Their Stripes. We discovered that animal myths normally give fictional reasons to why animals have certain features. We story mapped the tale by using pictures and actions and have explored it further by sequencing and retelling it in our own words.
After our trip to LEGOLAND last week, we were inspired to make Lego creations using our geographical knowledge. We worked collaboratively in small groups to make human and physical features of the 7 continents; Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Australia and Antarctica.
